Manila, March 25, 2017 – Dreams of themed figure drawing sessions have come to life last March 25, 2017 when non-profit art group Pens N’ Brushes debuted its series of nude figure drawing events at The Open Space Manila with an impressive theme of the assassination of Julius Caesar.
Conceptualized in Singapore by art enthusiast Emerson Baun together with a group of artistic friends, Pens N’ Brushes aims to explore and celebrate the splendour of the human figure by producing drawing sessions focusing on exciting themes each month. “Art is celebrated in all forms but we notice that there’s a lack of attention to figure drawing; hence we created Pens N’ Brushes,” said Emerson Baun. “By bringing together elements of the human figure, good fitting music, casual set-up, and throwing in a massive dose of creativity, we hope to add another dimension to the overall experiential art process.”
Divided into three sets – first two with separate male and female models depicting the great Roman General Julius Caesar and his wife Calpurnia respectively, and the last set dramatically bringing the two together – guests are invited to interpret the art experience with their own drawing.
Leading art supplies brand Faber Castell have taken notice of the group’s initiative and collaborated with them. They provided art materials such as coloured pencils, crayons, pastels and charcoals for the visitors to use. Guests, although, were free to bring materials that they’re most comfortable of using. Renowned interior design firm Detalye Design Group led their professional eye in dressing up the venue and made it look like the ancient Roman Republic, while art+ magazine, the Philippines’ premier visual art and lifestyle title, also tied up with the group and covered the nude figure drawing debut.
“Our series of events have received an overwhelming response from the Singapore market, that’s why we decided to bring it to our hometown, Manila, too,” adds Emerson Baun. “Art is a huge part of the urban culture in Manila; hence when the team asked me to lead it, I didn’t think twice and I just dived into the concept. I think it’s a very stirring model and we will make each session fresh and extraordinary by using shifting themes,” continues Angel Altura, the lead of Manila events.
With Pens N’ Brushes’ continued effort in bringing sophisticated and well-thought-of series of nude figure drawing events, art fanatics in Manila will now have another venue to bring out their creative juices.
